Exclusions - what's not covered by Norwich Union Travel insurance

We've told you everything that we include in our travel insurance policy, but we want you to have the confidence to know that there's no ‘small print’ and that we'll pay out when it comes to the crunch.

Below are some examples of what is excluded under this policy. For full details, please consult the policy wording.

Any claim which happens in the following circumstances:

  1. Death, injury, illness of disability resulting from:
    • Suicide or attempted suicide, or exposure to any danger which can reasonably be predicted (unless you are trying to save human life)
    • Sexually transmitted diseases
    • You being under the influence of alcohol or drugs (other than drugs taken under medical supervision and not for treating drug addiction).
  2. If you, or anyone acting for you, makes a claim which is fraudulent or exaggerated, we have the right to cancel your policy without a refund, and reject that claim.
  3. Any loss or damage directly caused by or arising from:
    • Ionising radiation or radioactive contamination from any nuclear waste arising from burning nuclear fuel
    • The radioactive, toxic, explosive or other dangerous properties or any explosive nuclear equipment.
  4. We will not pay out for any claim, loss or injury which is the result or:
    • War, invasion or the military activities of a foreign enemy
    • Civil war, revolution, rebellion or insurrection (i.e. people rising up and changing the government by force or attempting to do so).
    • Military power (even if properly authorised by the government) or usurped power (military action not approved by the government).
  5. Any accident, injury, loss or damage arising as a result of:
    • Earthquakes
    • Riot or civil commotion which takes place outside of the UK (Great Britain, the Isle of Man or Channel Islands)

Unless you can prove that the incident was not caused by that event. You'll find our full terms and conditions of cover in the policy booklet. View our travel insurance policy booklet online now.
