What can it be used for? It's designed to help give your loved ones the security to manage financially, or cover an interest only mortgage, if you die. It's designed to help cover a repayment mortgage or other loan where the outstanding balance reduces over time as you make your repayments.
Does the amount of cover stay the same? Yes, the amount of life cover stays the same for the duration of the plan. No, the amount of life cover reduces broadly in line with the outstanding balance of your mortgage or loan.
When does it pay out? It pays out a one-off lump sum if you die during the term of the plan or if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness and not expected to live more than 12 months, as long as your plan has at least 18 months to run.
How much cover can I get? Any amount up to £500,000, depending on your circumstances. You decide how much cover you need. You can work it out using our life cover calculator.
How long will I be covered for? You decide this, too. For example, it might be until you expect your children to become financially independent or when your mortgage will be paid off. You can take the plan out from age 18 but it can't go beyond your 70th birthday. The minimum term is 3 years.
Built in additional cover? With Norwich Union, you get terminal illness cover included. This pays out a lump sum if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness and not expected to live more than 12 months, as long as your plan has at least 18 months to run.
Can I get critical illness cover? You can choose to take out an alternative plan offered by Norwich Union, which combines life cover with critical illness cover. To apply, call us on 0800 068 5549*.
Can I get joint cover? Yes, you can take out this plan on your own or with someone else. A pay-out will be made upon the death of the first person, then the plan will end.
Can I put this plan in trust? Yes, this plan can be written under trust if you want to leave money to specific people and avoid the lump sum pay-out being subject to inheritance tax.
